Hquge congratulations to Aardman Animations for winning an Emmy Award in the Best Animation Category for "Shaun The Sheep and The Farmers Llamas" at the ceremony in Cannes. Well done to all the talented team involved and especially to composer Mark Thomas for his brilliant score. The pan-pipe and the "bottle" playing on the soundtrack undoubtedly swung it!

Very proud to have played flutes and clarinets on the soundtrack for this series in
the company of "greats" such as Laurence Cottle, Ian Thimas
and John Paricelli.
The music composed by Mark Thomas is wonderful.

HONOUR FOR SWANSEA MUSICIAN
Griff Harries has been invited to join the Gorsedd of the Bards at this year's National Eisteddfod. The honour - which will be presented in a special ceremony at the Eisteddfod in Abergavenny this August, is for "Services to Music and the Arts in Wales". Honorary memberships of the Gorsedd are bestowed annually by the Council of the National Eisteddfod of Wales to individuals from all parts of the country, in recognition of their achievements and their commitments to Wales, the Welsh language and their local communities. Griff - one of just a dozen given the honour this year - is a fluent Welsh speaker who grew up in Neath and now lives in Mumbles, Swansea.
Although he has a degree in Geography he has spent his life working in music. He was one of the founders of both the National Youth Jazz and National Youth Wind Orchestras of Wales as well as the Swansea Community Orchestra. He is the director of the Chamber Orchestra of Wales and for more than ten years he has been the Musical Director of the annual pantomime season at the Grand Theatre, Swansea (for Qdos and UK Productions). Griff works extensively in television - recently conducting his Orchestra and soloists for a special edition of "Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol" and performing on the soundtrack of "Sean the Sheep and the Farmer's Lamas" for Aardman productions.
Griff's work for the National Eisteddfod of Wales has been varied and interesting. For over a decade, he has been closely involved - providing orchestras, bands and musicians and in 2014 he conducted his Orchestra (The Chamber Orchestra of Wales) in the televised world premier performance of a new work by the winner of the prestigious Compser's Prize. Currently, he is working with composer Mark Thomas on a major multi media project in association with the Eisteddfod and the Welsh Assembly Governent which is planned for presentation in 2018. He was the music associate and orchestral contractor for the recent film of "Under Milk Wood" (Dan Y Wenallt) produced by Fatti Films, which won much critical acclaim and was nominated by BAFTA for an Oscar.
As the longest serving committee member of the Gower Festival, Griff has served in most capacities including that of Artistic Director for five successful years. He is also a consultant music advisor to the City and County of Swansea.
Griff is delighted to receive this honour.
